For my Bat Mitzvah I wanted to do something charitable for others who aren’t as fortunate as I am. I chose to donate baskets to the One Family Fund because the work they do is so important and meaningful. For the past four years I have been a camper at Camp Timberlane. I am always impressed that Camp Timberlane, along with One Family, brings over kids from Israel who have been affected in some way by terrorism. This August 2012 we had another fantastic group of kids from Israel up at Camp Timberlane.
The thirty Israeli campers and their counselors who enjoyed the 2012 Camp Timberlane experience have returned home after an adventurous time in northern Ontario. Before they left for camp, seventeen families generously opened their homes to the children, billeting them in Toronto, while they explored some of Southern Ontario. They visited the CN Tower, Niagara Falls and Casa Loma as well as enjoying a host of activities including BBQs, a Pickle Barrel sponsored lunch, free bowling at Playtime Bowl and a sponsored shopping spreeat [...]
Eighteen-year-old Nisan is youngest child born to Meir and Alona. He has three older sisters: Bat-El z’l, Sivan (28) and Gitit (20). On June 11, 2003, a bus bombing in Jerusalem took the life of his oldest sister Bat-El. She was only 21 years old at the time that she was murdered and Nisan was 9 years. Nisan, and the entire Ohana family, are albino and suffer from defective eyesight.

I made the three-hour trip north from Jerusalem to Tel Hai for the One Family Fund Summer Camp Visitor’s Day dinner. I was really curious and excited to see what an Israeli camp looks like, and, needless to say, I was blown away.
