Since the start of Operation Pillar of Defense, our staff and volunteers have visited hundreds of victims and their families, and newly injured victims in Beersheba, Sderot, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netivot, and Ofakim. The 600+ victims previously injured and living in the south have received multiple phone calls of support and counseling from OneFamily case workers, coordinators, therapists, and volunteers – ensuring that all their emotional and physical needs are taken care of.

Immediately after an attack OneFamily does an assessment of the emotional, financial, and legal support each victim will need in order to ensure rehabilitation and recovery from the trauma of terror. It is essential that each victim knows their rights, how to obtain benefits, and understand the journey of recovery from emotional and physical injury.

Financial assistance required by families in Southern Israel:

  • People were unable to work during the operation and many will not have salary reimbursement.
  • Expenditures continue to increase during a prolong stay in shelters - food, electricity, phone, water, etc.
  • Damage of basic electrical appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators due to short circuiting.
  • Destruction of homes following direct hits. Many times damages are not completely covered by insurance and government benefits.
  • Refuge to the north: Travel expenses including fuel, taxi, or public transport and  purchase of food, children’s activities, and clothes.
  • Host families: many families do not have a safe room and stay at relatives and friends. The host families experience additional expense double or triple their usual expenses.
  • Illness caused by the stress of the crisis requires payment for medication and doctors’ visits and additional costs incurred by an increased use of sedatives.
